OBITUARY

Laura Lee Green Cook, age 91, gained her angel wings on the evening of Saturday, September 20, 2025, surrounded by family in Pensacola, Florida.
Laura was born on October 11, 1933, in Pineville, Florida, to Brady and Florence Green. She was the granddaughter of Orville and Elizar Ardaillar Flowers and Mr. & Mrs. Lewis Green.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, William “Eddie” Cook.
She is survived by her sister, Doris Crenshaw (Dean) of Marietta, GA; two sons, Chadwick W. Cook (Tonya Black) of Nokomis, FL, and Brady E. Cook (Kay) of Daphne, Alabama; five grandsons; two granddaughters, and thirteen great-grandchildren.
She graduated from Ernest Ward High School in 1951. In 1954, she began working at Chemstrand/Monsanto, starting in the yarn plant and ultimately spending most of her career as an executive secretary on “the hill” for engineering and plant managers.
She was often one of the elves during the company’s famous children’s Christmas parties. After retiring from Monsanto after 31 years, she found retirement was not suitable for her and began working with Poarch Creek Indians in 1987 as Administrative Assistant to Tribal Chairman.
She retired from full-time work at PCI in 2013 at 80 years of age. During her 26 years with Poarch Creek, she held a few different positions but often spoke about how much she enjoyed working with the tribe.
She was very proud of the fact that she was helpful in the early beginnings of the tribe’s federal recognition, and so very happy to see the success the tribe continues to achieve.
She and her late husband, Eddie, were active for many years in the Florida Eastern Star and members of Brooks Memorial Baptist Church.
Laura also served as the booking agent for her husband and sons’ musical band and very much enjoyed listening to her boys’ music and the barn dances held at Cook’s Barn in Davisville for many years through the 1980’s and 1990’s.
Funeral service will be held at 12 noon on Saturday, September 27, 2025, from Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel, with Pastor Tim Tew of Brooks Memorial Baptist Church officiating. Interment will follow in McCullough Cemetery in McCullough, AL.
Active pallbearers will be Chris Burkland, Randon Watson, Cordair Cook, Travis Ashcraft, John Wesley Cook and Greg Crenshaw.
Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until service time on Saturday, September 27, 2025, at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home in Atmore, AL.
