
A 44-year-old Atmore woman was arrested September 24 on felony drug possession charges after the vehicle in which she was riding was pulled over for having inappropriate lighting.
The incident began around 8:05 p.m. on Liberty Street. When police activated blue lights, the vehicle “accelerated at a high rate of speed and turned onto Mobile Street.”
Lakeisha Knight, a passenger, reportedly “jumped from the vehicle and ran from the scene.” As police chased Knight on foot, an officer “observed her throw a package.”
Knight was detained after a brief foot pursuit, and the package was recovered. It was found to contain a small amount of crack cocaine and several grams of synthetic cannabis (Spice).
She was arrested and processed into the Escambia County Detention Center on one count each of possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Knight was still listed on the ECDC’s inmate roster this morning (Thur., Sept. 25.
