A Mobile man was arrested on felony drug possession charges as he was being taken into custody for being intoxicated inside a local hotel, when a pipe with a trace amount of methamphetamine was discovered on his person.
The incident took place around 8:55 p.m. when an officer was sent to Hampton Inn, from which dispatchers received a report of “a guest causing a disturbance and and acting strangely.”
While talking with the guest, later identified as John Kennedy, 35, officers “noted that he was under the influence and placed him
under arrest for public intoxication.”
A pre-arrest search revealed a glass pipe with methamphetamine residue, and Kennedy was additionally charged with possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Kennedy remained in the Escambia County Detention Center Tuesday afternoon, August 12. No mug shot had been posted to the jail website at 4:45 p.m.
