An Atmore teen was cited for careless driving after his vehicle, northbound on Florida 97, veered into the southbound lane and caused a five-car pileup Saturday afternoon (Aug. 23).
The series of crashes resulted in injuries to an Atmore woman and her child, a Uriah man and two Pensacola, Fla. women.
Florida Highway Patrol officers reported that the smash-up occurred around 5:25 p.m. (FHP reports do not include the names of drivers and victims in its reports,)
Reports show that the 18-year-old Atmore man, driver of an SUV, was traveling north when he “failed to maintain safe control of his vehicle.” The SUV hit a passenger van in which the Pensacola women – a 63-year old who was driving and a passenger, 87 – were riding, causing minor injuries to both.
The SUV then struck a sedan for which reports provided no information, before striking a vehicle driven by a 33-year-old Atmore woman, who suffered “minor” injuries. An 8-year-old child in the vehicle was “seriously” injured, as was the Uriah man driving the fifth vehicle involved in the accident.
The SUV finally came to rest on its right side, its driver also “seriously” injured
FHP reports show that none of the injuries was believed to be life-threatening.
