Tentative plans call for Saturday service at ECHS for McBride

Tentaive plans call for Dr. Ulysses McBride’s funeral service to take place at 11 a.m. this Saturday (Sept. 13), in Escambia County High School’s Cornell Torrence Gymnasium. Burial is set to follow in Oak Hill Cemetery, Highway 21 North.

Arrangements incomplete for Dr. Ulysses McBride

A spokesperson for Christian Memorial Funeral Home in Atmore said today – Monday, Sept. 8 – that funeral arrangements for Dr. Ulysses McBride are incomplete and will be announced as soon as the family has had a chance to complete them.

Dr. McBride, a leader in the Atmore community, was a member of the Atmore Industrial Development Board. He passed away Friday, September 5. He was also the founder of the Atmore Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, of which he was a member for 73 years and held the brotherhood’s highest office.

He was Kappa Alpha Psi’s 26th National Grand Polemarch, making him the organization’s national leader, from 1988 through 1991 and was the 46th member ever designated a Laurel Wreath Laureate for his “extraordinary achievement.”

Atmore Free Press will post Dr. McBride’s arrangements as soon as they become finalized.
