An Atmore man was arrested July 29 on felony drug possession charges and driving under the influence after city police responded to a report of gunfire in the area of Cindebran Road and Deer Creek Road.
Reports show the first officer to arrive observed a vehicle, parked on the side of the road with its engine running.
The officer reported that the driver, 24-year-old Seth Smith, “appeared to be under the influence and had an odor of alcohol about his breath.” He also noted there was a rifle in the vehicle’s passenger seat.
Smith reportedly granted consent to search the vehicle, and police discovered several Lortab pills and a handgun. The Atmore man failed a field sobriety test and was arrested for possession of a controlled substance and driving under the Influence.
He was processed into the Escambia County Detention Center, from which he was released July 30. No mugshot was posted to the jail website.
