Traffic stop lands local woman in jail

An Atmore woman whose vehicle as pulled over by city police for faulty lighting, was arrested September 2 after it was discovered she was the subject of several outstanding warrants.

The traffic stop occurred around 8:10 p.m. on Alabama 21.

The driver, later identified as Monique Jessie, 58, of Atmore. was found to have an outstanding felony warrant and several misdemeanor warrants.

She was placed under arrest, and a K9 unit was called to the scene. The dog alerted on the vehicle, and a probable cause search of the vehicle revealed a small amount of cocaine and an unspecified quantity of marijuana, along with items used to ingest narcotics.

Jessie remained in the Escambia County Detention Center today (Wed. Sept. 3) on charges of possession of a controlled substance, first-degree possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
