Alabama Law Enforcement Agency officials reported that a single-vehicle crash that occurred around 4 p.m. yesterday (Thursday Sept. 4) claimed the life of a Chickasaw man.

State trooper reports show that 65-year-old Thomas Oliver Swindle Jr. was fatally injured when the 2018 Jeep Cherokee in which he was a passenger left the roadway, struck a tree and overturned.

Swindle was pronounced deceased at the scene, while the driver of the Jeep, Leila M. Clevland, 69, of Selma, was injured and taken to University Hospital in Mobile for treatment.

The crash occurred near I-65’s 35-mile marker, approximately three miles north of Bay Minette, in Baldwin County.

No further details were provided as troopers continued to investigate.
